Welcome back to a new semester with the Franklin Residential College! As the first entry in this blog, I’m happy to announce that the Spring 2012 semester is starting out swimmingly. It took a week or so, but everyone seems to be getting back into the swing of things. We’ve already had quite a few major events including trips for 6 to 7 students to see Yo Yo Ma and the Tchaikovsky Ballet (separate events) via the FRC’s Performing Arts Series. Most importantly, however, we had elections for Spring 2012’s officers after the first week back to school. All of the officers are well on their way to planning an enormous series of events, ranging from small gatherings (like a party for the Oscars) to huge activities to share with the entire Myers Quad. As many of you may know, next year (the 2012-2013 school year) the FRC will be living in building 1516 on East Campus while our Rutherford home on Myers Quad is being beautifully rebuilt. This Sunday, everyone planning on living in 1516 with us will meet up, and decide on what rooms to live in! All around Rutherford, you can hear talk of roommates and points. Of course, many more events will be happening in February, including two more Performing Arts shows: 100 Years of Broadway on February 6th and The Capitol Steps on February 10th. Most excitingly, though, is one of this semester’s major events - the FRC Art Show! Any student in the FRC can submit artwork, whether an art major oran engineering major. Students can submit pieces from the 13th to the 16th. The show opens in Kameron’s apartment in Rutherford on Friday, Feb. 17th. Anyone can come in and browse through the artwork during the weekend, but many people are looking forward to the Art Show’s closing reception on Monday the 20th (at Cookie Night!), which will include food, drinks, classy and not-so-classy conversation, and possibly some live music as well! This is definitely one of the most action-packed semester’s we’ve had in years, and I’m sure everyone is excited about our multitude of varied events to come! And of course, if you can’t come to the big events, there’s always cookie night every Monday to get to know the FRC members and relax. — Sam Bond
